About Us

The Archive Resource for Knowsley (ARK) is the base for Knowsley Archives and home to a collection of the borough’s historical records and documents that reflect the social and political history of the communities that make up the modern borough of Knowsley.

Our unique collection includes documents, maps and photographs, dating back as far as the 13th century, which tell stories of real people living and working in the area.

A three year Heritage Lottery funded programme enabled us to catalogue and digitise much of our remarkable collection, creating an online resource that is 1896accessible to the public and allows people to search and view items from the collection. Alongside this, we delivered a series of nine community-focussed projects that actively engaged groups across the borough in learning about and participating in Knowsley’s history and heritage.

We’re really excited about the collections we have here and
the work that we do. We hope that readers will enjoy this blog and get an understanding of why we’re so proud of the ARK!
